Letter Combinations Chant

Once a child has learned the sounds and names of the letters in the alphabet, it is time for them to start learning the sounds of the letter combinations.

During tutoring sessions that are focused on learning to read, I systematically teach children the sounds of the letter combinations in a way that is streamlined, multi-sensory, and provides them opportunities to practice identifying the sounds of the letter combinations while reading.  The first portion of our "learning to read" tutoring sessions are focused on learning the sounds of the letter combinations. The second portion of our tutoring sessions are focused on learning to encode & decode words using syllable division.

One of the activities that we create is a personalized phonics chant. While every child's chant will be different, based on what they come up with and what is meaningful to them, I am sharing a generic version here that you are welcome to use at home to practice learning the sounds of all of the letter combinations.

Enjoy!

THE BASICS:

Encourage your child to sing along with this chant once a day in between sessions as a way to practice recognizing these letter combinations and recalling the sounds of these letter combinations in less than 3 seconds/letter combo.
